Back to the Basics by Desiree M. Gumbs

With all the pandemonium in the world today about the Corona-19 virus, I asked God why should we go through this sense of confusion or chaos? I heard the words “Back to the Basics”. I questioned, “God what does that mean?” He said, “Well, we have gotten so focused on going to church without our children, husbands and extended family members.” God says in Matthew 18:20 (King James Version), for where two or three is gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) states, if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We can pray at home! Before, there were church assemblies or mega churches, Christians gathered in their homes. Ok, so the world says they are banning gatherings of more than 50 people at a time. No problem, we can pray at home; we can include our spouses, children and grandchildren. Just get back to the basics and pray!
Besides, we have technology, don’t we? Although we are home, we still can be proactive with God’s words. We can write books or plays, create songs or dances, drawing or paintings; we can be creative. God has aligned us with various platforms such as, Facebook, Instagram, Facetime, Zoom, or we can do periscopes with our children, our families, or friends. Guys we have got this!

We cannot forget in John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life”. God will not let His children die to this world. In 2 Chronicles 6:39 (American Standard Version) states, “then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee”. Hear that? God is saying he still hears us even from our homes. No diseases, no illnesses are going to keep us from God. He is calling us to equip our children with his word. We have forgotten that the greatest gift we can give our children, spouses, parents, family and even friends is the gift of prayer. Pray for each other; cover one another in prayer. Prayer, my friends, still works. Anoint yourselves and your family. According to Yolanda Adams, “This too shall pass”! God is in the midst of this “viral war.” He, supplies ALL our needs. Trust Him! It is written in Matthew 7:7 (KJV) “ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”! Wow! Powerful words. We have the answers right in the BIBLE, it is now time for us to use them. My declaration for you and my family; “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”, Joshua 24:15. Anoint your home, trust God, and go Back to the Basics!
