How One Leap of Faith Scaled One Business Owner To Millions Serving Kids, Community, and Black Women

KISH:: Tell us about you.

I’m 33 years old with 2 kids, and I was a teenage mom. I turned my expectations of myself around and opened 7 daycares and 2 luxury beauty supply stores. I decided to open daycare businesses because, it was first an idea of my mother. I eventually learned the craft and mastered it. The beauty industry was something, I was already interested in, and I wanted to create an environment for black women. “I wanted black women, to have a place where they could talk to someone like them while shopping, the only place a place woman has been the beauty supply. In beauty supply stores, there’s often a shortage of assistance, experience, and education. With my beauty supply stores, we give customers a luxury experience, at the only place they must find all their beauty needs”.

KISH: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others?

Kaijah Wilson: My dream is to become a worldwide name with beauty vaults in all states and I will accomplish that because I bring something to this industry different. It’s very rare to see black men and women open beauty supply stores but they look and are like the regular beauty supply store but with a ulta feel with knowledge and education.

KISH. Who or what inspired you to pursue this dream?

Kaijah Wilson:: My mother, she was a hard-working woman, my inspiration, and lost both her parents at a young age.

KISH: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream?

Kaijah Wilson: It’s very challenging to own black beauty supply stores, due to prices and comfortability of my counterparts such as the Koreans. It’s hard to get customers to understand why our prices may be different getting information too open and accounts it’s a Korean market so they don’t let blacks in.

KISH: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?

Kaijah Wilson: I inspired myself. My past lets me know that anything is possible, and I know this is a black market so why wouldn’t I keep going and let my people experience something different when in a beauty supply, I refuse to allow others to use us.

KISH: Please provide final thoughts/advice for others by finishing this sentence… dream.

Kaijah Wilson: Make sure it’s your passion and you’re not money hungry because it will never work and you will give up
