K.I.S.H. Magazine Exclusive Interview featuring Ayzha Jones!

KISH: Tell us about you.

I am Ayzha Jones, an Afro-Latina bridal and evening wear designer based in Atlanta, Ga. I am self-taught and self-funded. In February 2022, I took the leap of faith and decided to act on my dream. I have since founded “Strut for TBI Awareness” to spread awareness of Traumatic Brain Injuries. (TBI) Our debut fashion show fundraiser will be on November 5th, 2022, in Atlanta. I have also solidified a spot to show during NYFW in February 2023.

KISH: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others?

Ayzha: My dream/plan is to become an internationally known designer, with designs worn on the biggest red carpets and by millions of brides. Accomplishing this goal will not only be a win for myself but for all minority women designers in Atlanta, Washington Heights, and Santo Domingo. I hope to inspire the next generation of Latina and Black women and offer aid and funding to their future fashion empires.

KISH: Who or what inspired you to pursue this dream?

Ayzha: I’ve loved fashion since a young age. Both my parents and maternal grandmother are fashion-forward and introduced me to my style. My first introduction to the fashion industry was the Met Gala. The combination of art and fashion inspired me to one day become the artist that is known as a fashion designer.

KISH: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream?

Ayzha: My journey to becoming a fashion designer has not been easy. There is a lack of adequate funding, community support, and assistance within the industry, especially for minority women.

KISH: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?
Ayzha: My family is my biggest inspiration. They inspire me daily to continue pushing toward my goals. During my lowest days, I know my family’s support and love will keep me going.

KISH: Please provide final thoughts/advice for others by finishing this sentence… dream.

Ayzha: In one of my favorite novels, “The Alchemist”, Paulo Coelho penned “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” Never be afraid to fail, failing is a part of the journey and process.
