KISH: Tell us about you..
I’m a single mom and I have a daughter. I was born and raised in New York and now living in Los Angeles. I’m a proud Howard Bison and entrepreneur.
KISH: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others?
Shawna: My dream is to become a successful business owner while balancing my life and wishing my parents were alive to witness my success.
KISH: Who or what inspired you to pursue this dream?
Shawna: I worked for corporate Direct TV for 15 years and then our company was acquired by AT&T. From there, I decided to take a year off to gather myself. I went to therapy, did some self-assessments and decided what my next journey was going to be. I thought a lot about what I enjoy doing and wanted to do something that didn’t feel like work. That’s when I decided to open my own communications company because it brought all of my skills together.
KISH: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream?
Shawna: Battling imposter syndrome in public relations and not having a degree in public relations were the two most difficult challenges I’ve encountered. I also faced the regular challenges that all business owners face – finances, business development, staffing and finding your unique value proposition as the business evolves and grows.
KISH: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?
Shawna:My daughter is the one who inspired me to keep pursuing my dream. Watching my daughter see me staying focused and overcome my most difficult challenges really keeps my momentum going. I’ve always wanted to own my own business, and unlike working at a regular job, I can innovate, influence, and define my financial goals and prosperity. I knew that I could help others that needed the services that I provided.
