I am a HBCU college graduate of thee Alabama A&M University who is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. I knew at an early age that I must grind hard to get the things in life I wanted. I am a wife, and mother of three. I have a career as a Senior Level Contracting professional with the United States Government and run 3 businesses. So life moves fast in my environment, but I been grinding all my life. I like to have fun and love to encourage others to dream big. I am ever evolving and always remind myself that whom much is given, much is required.

KISH: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others? Shamika Minisee :My dream is to own an international Career and Business Coaching Firm, where I encourage and propel individuals to reach their authentic greatness in career achievements and business accomplishments. I want people to understand the difference between a job and a career so, I make it my mission to help them sparkle and shine on paper. I also encourage aspiring business owners to not only launch their businesses but to sustain them. I believe that my success and failures in career and business has birthed this dream. Accomplishing my dreams benefit me by seeing the fruits of my labors. These same accomplishments help others because when they complete my coaching session, they know that they can do anything because it’s their birthright. I mean God, told them but He uses others to remind them of what He said.

KISH: Who or what inspired you to pursue this dream? Shamika Minisee: Honestly, the hustlers on my block. I come from St. Louis Missouri and while the neighborhood that I grew up in was poverty stricken, I focused on those who still got up and got it. I remember admiring the hustle in the hair dresser across the street, the automotive worker and the school teacher around the corner. I recall people walking down the street selling items (the early stages of entrepreneurship). My aunt and uncle would also come to get me on the weekends. Their goal? To get me out of the hood! They would take me out to the county to see their home and their subdivision. I didn’t even know what a subdivision was until I went out there. They would ensure that I we rode in luxury cars, vacationed and would point out things to me that would stretch my imagination. Once I saw it, I wanted it! I thought to myself if I need to manifest this, and work it into fruition. Sometimes you need to be the one to believe in your dream or dreams and pursue it. Get the confidence, and put the dream on blueprint before sharing with others. Nobody should encourage you more than yourself to pursue and live out your dreams.

KISH: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream? Shamika Minisee: Setbacks can come financially, or stem from poor health. I’ve even endured a setback through a natural disaster. My brother was murdered minutes after getting off of the phone with me. Those things wrecked me, but here I still am. The most important thing to remember is that you can get back up after a setback. Learning how you responded from that setback can propel you past a future circumstance, that would of have been a “setback” in the past. These setbacks have also taught me that no matter the circumstance, keep dreaming, keep walking and keep running towards the goal.

KISH: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?

Shamika Minisee: My role models growing up were my brother, as well as my uncle Cliff. My brother instilled in me hard work ethic, hustle, big goals, and big moves. My uncle Cliff showed me why and how education and entrepreneurship is key. Dreams do come true, but you have to pursue them, once you see the dreams.

KISH: Please provide final thoughts/advice for others by finishing this sentence… dream.

Shamika Minisee: Dream on dreamer until reality manifests itself through perseverance and work.
