KISH: Tell us about you.
Since the age of six, I have always had a vision of reaching the masses – helping them improve their lives personally and professionally.
By the time I became a first-time author, I had realized that media would be the platform to help me bring that vision to fruition.
Throughout my career, I’ve used the media to enable people to share their experiences and see the value they can bring to others while also improving their own lives.
As a media and communications professional, I’ve helped small businesses, luminaries, Fortune 500 leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs achieve their business goals by obtaining more clients and revenue through award-winning narratives and compelling messaging.
We’ve recently launched the Exceptional People Network, a business platform designed to engage, inform, inspire and support entrepreneurs and business leaders in a way that encourages and enables them to excel by providing content, tools, and resources for success.
KISH: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others?
Monica: My dream or mission has been consistent ever since I began my journey to help professionals and entrepreneurs realize their true potential by providing them the business guidance, resources, connections, and information needed to build a foundation for long-term success and greatness.
It’s the reason I continue to develop new ways to support them, including through the Exceptional People Network.
It benefits me because it enables me to live out what I believe is a part of my life’s purpose.
KISH: Who or what inspired you to pursue this dream?
Monica: I believe that we’re not here to live just for ourselves. As a very young child, I learned from my parents that uplifting others should be a part of everyone’s purpose. I knew I wanted to help others live well and do well, but that dream did not come to full fruition until later in life. We all have a purpose and gifts we should use to empower, engage, and encourage renewed vision and better living.
KISH: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream?
Monica: As with most people who have started a company, I’ve encountered many challenges but found the right solutions through persistence and consistency. One specific challenge I had early on was finding the right support team. It’s essential to have a team of people who can help you grow your business so that you don’t have to master every aspect of the business. Of course, you start on your own, but the expertise of others is necessary to gain momentum. Attempting to master or do everything will stunt your company’s growth, and you’ll also lose your enthusiasm.
Here are a few characteristics team members should possess:
1. They should believe in you, your vision, and your dream.
2. They’re trustworthy and honest.
3. They’re timely.
4. They’re able to admit mistakes and learn from them.
5. They take risks to meet their own goals.
6. They provide constructive feedback on your performance.
7. They are self-motivated.
KISH: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?
Monica: Whenever I encountered a challenge, I’d always go back to the foundation of how I was raised, which is to apply faith to everything I do in life, no matter how small or significant the challenge encountered. I continue to do that today. That’s what keeps me going during good times and bad times.
Each of us has experienced some adversity, which hopefully has taught us that we can overcome anything with courage, patience, and faith.
Sometimes you don’t know what you can do until you encounter challenging circumstances.
Adversity is a test of who we are on the inside. How you handle it makes you unique, and that uniqueness is what you can share with others to inspire them to realize their internal strength or resilience.
Adversity has a way of bringing out talents that otherwise would remain dormant.
I often ask people what new talents and lessons learned have come out of their adversity?
KISH: Please provide final thoughts/advice for others by finishing this sentence… dream.
Monica: Life is full of unexpected curve balls that we cannot avoid. Some of them come at us harder than others. But through faith, perseverance, and patience, we can rebound in ways we never thought possible—the challenge in recovering lies within our mindset and our ability to exercise faith to continue moving forward.
What do you believe needs to happen to experience a significant change in your life this year? What do you think is your life’s purpose?
Take some time to identify it and be committed to it by developing an actionable plan. Find a coach or mentor to keep you accountable.
The world is full of distractions and naysayers, and it’s easy to get side-tracked or pulled away from your dream and purpose.
As Oscar Wilde once said, “Those who say it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.”
Don’t let anyone talk you out of your dream.
