K.I.S.H. Magazine interview with Trailblazer Secily Wilson!

KISH: Tell us about you..
S is for S Speaker. S is for Surthiver®. S is for Secily….a Two-Time Stroke Survivor, Bestselling Author, Award Winning Broadcaster, Motivational Speaker and Philanthropist.
I’ve had it all, lost it all and bounced back stronger! There’s little I haven’t survived. Two strokes didn’t stop me. Divorce didn’t derail me. I lost my job, and found my passion. I am a woman who overcomes through sheer willpower and continues to thrive! I use my voice to inspire and influence the world!

Over the years I’ve interviewed notables like Civil Rights icon Andrew Young, Super Bowl coach Tony Dungy and President Obama’s spiritual advisor Dr. Joel Hunter. I even gave a boost to the ratings of the television game show Family Feud. My appearance on the show was enough to bring show host and king of comedy, Steve Harvey, to his
knees and it turned into an epic TV moment, garnering over 2 million YouTube views and national press. It led to the title of my bestselling book: “She Said the P Word”.

KISH: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others?

Secily: My dreams are ever evolving. Each of them with a mission to improve the lives of those who cross my path. I’m a woman of faith and my prayer is consistently one of abundant blessings, so that I can be a blessing to others.

KISH: Who or what inspired you to pursue this dream?

Secily: LIFE inspired me to pursue this dream. Experiencing a level of “success” and losing everything, has a way of humbling you. If you are open enough to receive the “perceived” failure as an opportunity to reevaluate what’s really important, your perspective and priorities change.

KISH: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream?

Secily: Challenges of experiencing a stroke on-air, at the age of 39, as I was preparing for an early morning news broadcast. It left me temporarily, unable to speak. The one tool I used to make my living was suddenly unusable. THAT is a major challenge. Coupled with a divorce, job loss and home foreclosure. As the song lyrics go, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. Challenges will come. It’s how you respond to them that makes the difference. There is always a choice. The way to maximize what you have left. It may seem insignificant, but smack, flip it, rub it down….do whatever you have to do to make what you have left great!

KISH: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?

Secily: Prayer is the one constant that carries me through each and every adversity that comes my way. I live by my “P” Principals. 1. Prefect the art of the Pivot. I am a practicing pivot professional. When life does go the way you plan or expected, you have to make a Pivot. We all learned the art of the Pivot during the pandemic. 2. Trust the Process. The pain you experience because of a challenge or adversity, is a part of the process, that more often than not, pushes you into your purpose. Don’t avoid it, go through it. 3. Get a Posse. Those are the men and women who encourage you and hold you accountable. They are vital to your life, when life is slowly draining from your body. They are ones who help carry you across the finish line. No man/woman is an island. We need a strong Posse!. 4. Preserver. Perseverance is synonymous with being unstoppable. If you don’t not quit, you cannot be defeated!

KISH: Please provide final thoughts/advice for others by finishing this sentence… dream.

Secily: Dream big, Dream often and Dream with passion. Remember dreams without a plan is just talk!
