Speak Life

By Author Tish Shearer

Frank Outlaw is accredited with the famous quote, “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” We are often careless with our words, not realizing the power of what we speak to manifest our destiny. We can manifest greatness or sickness. I did not understand the power of my words until I had manifested sickness over my body by the words that I spoke and believed in my heart.

In 2015, a messed-up knee surgery, and bilateral hearing loss, started the process of the end of my 15-year military career at the age of 34 the following year. I was devasted and severely depressed. During this period, I spoke out my mouth and believed in my heart that I would be just like my mother, disabled and physically unable to work at a young age. My mother has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Do you know what happens? My words and thoughts manifest in my central nervous system, what I had spoken over myself. My body began to develop various symptoms of MS. My symptoms were real, but the diagnosis of MS was not. Have you ever heard of Conversion Disorder? Conversion disorder, also known as a functional neurological disorder, is a condition that can be triggered by a reaction to stress, psychological, or physical trauma. Essentially it was a psychological disorder that converted into physical symptoms. Let me make it plain: it was all in my head.

Why do I share this? I want to bring the awareness that our words have the power to manifest our destiny. The Bible teaches us, “death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21). Ask yourself whether you are speaking the life of greatness or hardship and sickness over yourself. When you speak that you have no money, guess what? You will always lack in your finances. When you speak, I’m fat; you will eventually begin to struggle with your weight. Our words have the power to speak to our destiny, including our children and others. Be careful what you speak and allow others to speak over you.

How did I get delivered from Conversion Disorder? I am glad that you asked; I spoke healing over my body. I begin to speak the opposite of what I saw and felt. Are you sick in your body? Speak Life!!! Are you struggling with your finances? Speak Life!!! Are you struggling in your marriage? Speak Life!!! There is greatness in you; manifest it by speaking positivity in your life. The average person speaks approximately 16,000 words per day. Are you speaking words that will build you up or tear you down? Speak life. Today, I challenge you to change how you speak to yourself about your situations. I challenge you to speak life.
