Special Exclusive Interview Michelle Davis

K.I.S.H. Tell us about you and your relationship to the St. Louis area, brag and be proud

My name is Michelle Davis, and I am a women owned small business located in an urban area of St Louis, Mo. I am the owner of STL Contouring & Health Consulting. I was born on an Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas in 1974. I came into the world as a preemie weighing 4lbs. My Mother delivered me in her 8th month, and I was a rainbow baby times 2. So, I was a force to be reckoned with when I came into this world! ST. Louis, Missouri became my home at the sweet toddler age of 2 years old.  I grew up with 2 very loving parents. I was the chatty patty and smart as a whip in school all at the same time. And I will let you know that the tuna fish sandwiches that I would sell to my friends at school went off with a hitch! I was a whole couple of dollars paid at one time. Hello, candy room!!!!I had a business mind even at this time in my life.

I then became a Sunbeam with the Salvation Army Church on Euclid Ave in the heart of St. Louis City. One of my biggest accomplishments during this time of my life, as a Sunbeam, while at Camp Mahaska in Bourbon, Mo, I saved the life of a boy that was drowning in the deep end of the pool. Needless to say, my quest to help others began to really evolve at a young age.

At the same time, my voice started to develop into one that would be noticeable. My Father started taking notice of my voice and started taking me to voice lessons given by renowned voice coach Cindy Bonnavetis.

Fun Fact: When I was 25 years old, I auditioned for the St. Louis American Idol that Tim Ezell did. I went through the stages of the show and was voted as one of the top singers, by St. Louisans, to compete for the win. It was filmed by Channel 2 News on that day. You will never guess what I sang, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” by Whitney Houston.

Being allowed to grow into my expressive personality, it gave me a great sense of confidence to develop into a visionary that had wonderful gifts and talents that still live in me today.

K.I.S.H. – What is your business dream/vision and how will accomplishing it benefit you and others?

Michelle- The vision that I have for my dream business is to help people uncover the body that they want to see using non-invasive treatments along with health and nutrition. Performing such treatments as laser liposuction, laser cavitation, red heat sauna, sauna detox is a way to reduce fat in a safe way! My business dream is to offer services to my clients that will cause them to increase in self-confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem and see the results that they want to see.

I not only want to work with adults, I have a plan to reach young girls between the ages of 9 to 14 in hopes of helping them mold their girliness into the highest love for themselves, building self-esteem, self-worth and how to be a Leader among their peers. I hope to soon have a “Girlz Summer Week.” This is a future vision.

My goal is to help enhance the overall self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth of each client through consultations, events, and community engagements.

As my business grows, I will work to ensure that my business is a vital part of St. Louis community. My future goal is to one day have a multi-use establishment that can showcase my visions and dreams.

K.I.S.H. – Who or what inspired you to pursue this business dream/vision?

Michelle- My very first inspiration to go into the area of body sculpting was because I was in search of a way to remove fat from a targeted area of my body. Upon my research, I found that there is an alarming situation going on right now about these invasive treatments that are causing disease of the body and/or worse. There was a plethora of information about invasive treatments, and I must say that what I found scared me something terrible. In no way was I going to take my body through that! I kept researching then I saw, “Ever thought about being a Laser Sculpting technician_____?” I researched laser liposuction, and the rest is history. I began my quest to become a Laser Technician so that I can be a part of CHANGE. My community needs to know that there are non-invasive options available. I am on a quest, and it is called, “Try ME FIRST.” Let me help you get to where you want your body to be!

I cannot complete this question without giving kudos to my parents. Most importantly, they have always told me and made me feel that I can do anything that I place my mind on and heart into. Even to this day, they are my cheerleaders. Seeing how they would care for others with their unconditional loving made me want to be just like them.  They molded me into the God-fearing person that has compassion and I consider myself as a loyal person that I am today. These qualities have given me the strength, courage, and power to continue to pursue my goals.

K.I.S.H. -What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your business dream/vision?

Michelle:- The challenges that I have encountered are as follows:

  • Operating costs
  • Strong Marketing / Social Media costs
  • Staff for events and shows
  • Inventory

K.I.S.H. – Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?

Michelle- At first thought, what inspires me to keep pushing is an internal drive within me to not be a quitter! Actually, challenges seem to make me stronger. Each challenge presents itself to me to conquer. I must also say that my big brother is a huge inspiration to me. My brother has had MS for over 20 years, able to walk minimally with a walker, yet, he has such a wonderful perspective about life with thankfulness for what he can do. He truly inspires me to keep pushing towards my greatness!

K.I.S.H. – Please provide final thoughts/advice for others with a similar business dream/vision.

Michelle: -My final thoughts/advice for others is to follow your heart. Do something that is rewarding. Do something that when you are doing it, that brings the positivity out of you. I am not saying that some days, even with doing what you love, won’t be challenging. I am saying that if you are doing something that you are all 10 toes in, and you find honor in what you do. Let it be your story of determination, sacrifice, courage, and strength. Do not be afraid!
