Topic: The Year of the Women; Leading the Way!
Interview by Crystal Tolbert

A truly beautiful genuine spirit, Ms. Kellie Williams is a well-known actress, who stole many hearts at a young age, with her role as Laura Winslow on the sitcom “Family Matters.” She was born in Washington, D.C. She is the proud supportive wife of Hannibal Jackson and loving mother to two beautiful children, Hannah and John Jackson. She is a very influential businesswoman in the film industry, and a very wise producer. Kellie is the founder of the organization called “Kellie Williams Program.” A genuine philanthropist, Kellie has a passion for youth, and has helped cultivate many lives, through her charity work and through the “Kellie Williams Program.” This program gives inner youth the opportunity of a lifetime, to be able to learn the skills and fundamental of filming through performing arts.

Through her amazing effort, hard work and dedication, Ms. Kellie Williams, is a real example of a CHANGE AGENT and a CATALYST VOICE for our youth. Her time and dedication to partner with different charity programs such as “The Starlight Foundation International Youth Ambassador”, “Great Beginning for Black Babies”, and “Hollywood for Children”, are just a few to name. Through her education and philanthropy work, she has received honorable recognition by many.

As a young child, Kellie’s parents (her father) recognized, that she was shy and had a hard time expressing herself. They enrolled her into Howard University Children’s Theater. Her career took off at a young age, as a model and actress which lead to commercials, stage plays and television. At the age of 13, she landed her famous role, as Laura Winslow on “Family Matters.” Over the years Kellie has landed several roles as an actress and in 2010, she produced a film called “Blessed and Cursed.”

Something that is so amazing, is the fact that she had no problem with adapting to the different seasons in her life and overcoming the very critical opinions of those who might not understand a transition of life, as an entertainer/actress to her most important role thus far (being a supportive wife and devoted mother). In her words, “Getting your house in order, it is not taking a backseat by supporting your husband.”

Her voice and passion of really supporting her husband’s business and dream is so heartfelt. The joy and smile are in every word that is mentioned by Kellie. Her heart to be the best supporting loving wife and nurturing mother, is a true example that we still have virtuous women, that are C.E.O.’s that are carrying the right type of influence that can change a nation.

Kellie Williams is truly an example of what a role model, leading lady or our Modern-Day Proverbs 31 Woman should be. Her strength, fearless posture as a believer, and her passion for youth is being cultivated through the arts. Celebrating her husband’s amazing accomplishments or her children’s monumental moments, is why we must know that through our efforts, we have an audience that is always ready for our performance. Therefore, we must always give our BEST performance every time we have the opportunity. Kellie is truly using her POWER to continue to live out her PURPOSE and impact the masses for the KINGDOM of GOD.

Crystal: Tell us about you.

Kellie: “As a child, my parents kept me grounded and allowed me to have a childhood. My parents were concerned that I was shy and I was about to go to school. They put me in theater. On the set of “Family Matters,” we were like a real family. Me and Jaleel were like village kids. We were very grounded. I took a backseat from acting for a while to support my husband’s dream and take care of our two children.”

Crystal: What is your dream and how will accomplishing your dream benefit you and others?

Kellie: “I still love telling great stories. I still love the industry and acting. I really want to do more of the producing side. I produced a movie called “Blessed and Cursed.” I so enjoyed being able to tell really their stories. Now, that my kids are in school and I have the time, I have to support of my husband. Because I did what I was supposed to do, now everyone is supporting me.”

Crystal: What challenges have you encountered while pursuing your dream?

Kellie: “Perception, because people thought I was taking a back seat on my dreams. Not submitted to the peer pressure of others, even if you do admire them. You must be confident in your own season in your life. When you submit to your calling, that is when things fall into place.”

Crystal: Who or what inspired you to keep pushing regardless of the challenges you’ve encountered?

Kellie: “My Father, is really like a Mordecai. I can go to him and say, Daddy I know I am not an astronaut, but I am trying to get to the moon. My father will come up with a strategy. I think it is so important to a child, to have that type of support. I can go to my father now and he is like a battery, he truly will recharge my spirit.”

Crystal: Please provide final thoughts/advice for others by finishing this sentence… dream.

Kellie: “FALL in LOVE with the DREAM! PURSUE it! Many people are afraid to DREAM…But you must fall in love with the dream and the walk. It is sincerely a FAITH WALK but you can’t isolate yourself from inspiring others in the process.”
